Overall I have few complaints with refs who give all for little reward and much abuse. Witnessed another outstanding performance from Gerard Dougan this week who is top level. Was disappointed to see XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

If club umpires treat refs with such contempt while officiating it's hard to see where youth, players and fans will learn the respect for these hard woking men that is often dispensed with in heat of moment.

Our Under 16 Hurlers were handed out a hiding on Monday evening as was the same case the week before when the same opposition gave another team a hiding. The two way league means we have to go out again against the same opposition with the same inevitable outcome. In the interest of having meaningful games could the fixtures committee reassess the way the league is set up and at the midway point put teams of equal ability in to the same divisions. This is the way it is run in the South West Football Leagues and it works well.

This may well be a valid suggestion, and if so you should pursue it through your club.

Ryan O'Reilly must be in great shape - he is reffing 6 games per week in both codes. Either that or he must be highly regarded in reffing quarters. Or maybe there arent enough refs for games? Which is it? *embarrassed face*

Re: blow in
Although fitness is very important in refereeing a fit referee is not necessarily a good ref. As with playing, experience is also very important so a combination is hard to beat. The quality of refereeing in this county and others unfortunately is not at times acceptable and shows no sign of improving. There are signs- fitness test etc that Antrim are trying to address many of the problems although it's easier said than done!

In terms of juvenile hurling what competitions are All County?
Are these fixtures available.
mMaybe a bit of press would help to inform folk of what is going on.

You could always check with your club secretary?

I think the referees fitness initiative is a great idea. Especially as the games are getting quicker every year (or me getting older!).

What are the actions after the test? Do refs get selected in order of fitness? Would make sense I suppose, fitter refs get more games and more top end games. Well done to all involved.

No problem moderator but just to clarify I didn't and never do criticise any Antrim player as you will see if you read the full post.

Was at Navan yesterday and bottom line is result was all that matters but two issues to consider:
Carlow got tactics in second half spot on and played five men in their half back line for Antrim puck outs. This was reason it took Antrim twenty mins to get going.

we didn't post all of your contribution, unfair to criticise the line or players who clearly gave their all yesterday. As you rightly say at the start of your post, bottom line is the result was what mattered most.
