A HURLERS PRAYER

Give me o'Lord a hurlers skill
With strength of arm and speed of limb
Unerring eye for the flying ball
And courage to match them whatever befall
May my aim be steady - my stroke be true
My actions manly - my misses few
And no matter what way the game may go
May I part in friendship with every foe
When the final whistle for me is blown
And I stand at last at Gods Judgement Throne
May the great Referee when he calls my name
Say you hurled like a man, you played the game
Amen

I think sidney is just a negativist, the fact he says antrim 4th from bottom says it all as even the most humble of people would say mid table i on the other hand feel we can win the div.

Have a think sidney the stadium holds around 30k at present the new state of the art facilities will be holding 40-50, our new stadium will look as empty as croke does most of the year round but it will be the real stadium of dreams for kids all over ulster and possibly ireland why do you not want them to have this dream? If plans are done properly then it certainly will be affordable, as like i said croke isnt used often either, we could be hosting national league semis in belfast do you really want to turn that possiblity away?

Am i the only person getting fed up listening to people's negativity about Casement? Do people not understand what the end product is going to be and what it will mean for Gaelic games in Ulster?

The redevelopment of Casement was borne out of a political process. Its not Antrim or the Ulster Councils fault its getting built but it is our luck. We as gaels will have a stadium that will be able to host any game or international event. Ok, its tax payers money and we are all paying for it but its ours and we are intitled to it. How else would we ever have been abled to build a stadium of this nature? We couldn't have!

And to those saying it'll only be filled once or twice a year well, i hope on one of those occassions Antrim are involved and win the Championship. I've a wee nipper of 6 who would love to be playing :)

I think you are only pretending to understand the bit you can possibly respond to. It is not a full blown personal attack on Antrim County, they have all this money so they will certainly spend it. Yes build a stadium but then put facilities in it like warm up areas weights rooms so the gaels of belfast could also avail of it. not 40,000 seats that will get sat on at most twice a year. waste of tax payers money. Point still remains about too many big stadiums being built with gaa money. Generalising again so not to offend. What is your opinion on this, or maybe you don't have one. Antrim Abu for the fothcoming NFL & NHL. Predict a 4th from bottom finish at best for footballers and a spirited display by hurlers. let the games commence

Antrim doesn't have one red cent of this money, nor do Ulster Council at thsi point. Ulster council can only avail of this after invoices are submitted for work done on a step by step basis and subject to prior approval. That also applies to what precisely goes into this development. It is simply not a case of getting the money and spend it whatever way you want.

What about those people who play irish music and also play GAA, are they supposed to give up their opportunity to participate in fleadh events or their opportunity to play in their club championship?

Hardly another excuse to put games off, what disadvantage would there be in delaying/bringing forward the games by 1 week at a particular club championship stage? I just find it strange that the one week of the year that the biggest Irish cultural festival on the island takes place we decide to play championship matches.

There simply isn't enough days to allow wholesale changes nor to accommodate every particular request or cause - worthy or otherwise.

Who would be the best person to contact regarding the scheduling of fixtures in Antrim?

Every year the county see organise championship matches on the same weekend as the All-Ireland Fleadh. For an organisation that is supposed to have such close links to Irish Culture, language and History I think something should be done to make sure this doesnt happen in the future.

Surely the Fleadh is the perfect time to be playing fixtures as part of the celebration of our culture, language and games? This smacks of just another excuse to put games off and given the already strained availability of dates, the CCC are unlikely to consider this as a viable reason not to schedule games.

if a club refuses to sign a players inter-club transfer form (which would otherwise be legal and within GAA rules) simply to undermine the process, can anything be done to ensure the transfer goes through?

Any such queries need to be directed to the relevant county secretary through offical channels but transfers can go through under certain circumstances without the signature of the secretary of the club from which the transfer request arises.

Why is it that in the face of negative publicity about the justification for building such a big stadium, that the County Board refuse to publish anything about the redevelopment and how it will be used?

Because the "county board" are not co-ordinating this process. It is being done by Ulster Council as the award was only available at provinical level and not for individual counties! Anyhow, there is no point in publishing anything until plans are approved and granted. Public commentary and discussion on something that is only speculative is just a waste of time.

Whilst detailed plans are not yet available for public viewing, would the County Board be in a position to provide information on what the new stadium will be used for (outside of GAA games) to justify its existence? I am assuming that some sort of business case has been signed off that covers this.

Of course a business case has been signed off on this, otherwise the monies would never have been awarded. When the plans and business case etc are for public release from the Ulster Council, they will be posted on this site.
