I was reading through the guestbook last night and was interested in your reaction to feast or famine being a bit crazy for suggesting starting the 2011 football season in September or October this year. I hate to compare our games but is that not what they do in soccer all over Europe. I no that the weather is better in parts of Europe but Scotland England and Wales? and the surface in soccer needs to be better than for Gaelic Football it might be something worth looking at.

Oh for heaven's sake! You "hate to compare our games" but you just went right ahead and did it - and what a complete load of tosh into the bargain!

"This semi-professional attitude of club players who think that there only role is providing entertainment is a dangerous malaise creeping into the Association."......... Aren't we an amateur organisation?

Exactly - so we will spell it our for you as you didn't grasp what this "player" was effectively saying! Players have as much responsibility to the refereeing situation as club officials and members. There is no rule against players refereeing - some already do. The previous contributor seems to suggest that there responibility is simply to "entertain" supporters and memnbers by playing. That's what happens in professional games - not out amatueur organisation!

I am a current county footballer. I play with a division 1 club. If my club has to play all our games away then Antrim ccc may write us out of this years league campaign. Stuff you's who concocted this madness. You are serioulsy damaging the ethos of our codes.

And who do you think either believes this or cares whether you are county footballer or not? This "madness was concoted" by the clubs for the clubs. As for the "ethos of our codes" - you obviously haven't a clue what your are talking about. How would our "codes" work without referees??

Antrim on Twitter

There have been some positive comments on the guestbook regarding the Club Aontroma twitter feed, which may have left some people perplexed or wondering what twitter is. So, in case you are not sure.........

Twitter is a site which allows users to post mini messages - maximum 142 characters - about a particular topic.

A collection of messages on Twitter is called a Twitter feed. You can elect to to 'follow' any Twitter feed simply once you have registered with Twitter.

You register with Twitter simply by going to www.twitter.com and filling in the basic, quick registration. All you really need is a valid email address.

Once registered search for ClubAontroma under the 'find people' option, and when our county logo appears, click 'follow'.

Then, every time you check your Twitter site, you will see any updates which have been added to the ClubAontroma Twitter feed.

If you have a mobile phone which is web enabled you can keep up to date on your phone. I think there is also a way to get the twitter updates directly to your phone as a text message but I am not sure about that.

I keep the feed updated, typically with team news, match reports, weblinks to newspaper articles which mention our county team's forthcoming games etc. The Twitter feed also carries a link to the SaffronFrist blog which carries longer articles and can be found at http://saffronfirst-anantrimtrimblog.blogspot.com/

Crucially the feed also carried live updates of matches which I am either attending, or can get updates from.

You can also reply to the tweets, or comment on them.

So far 98 people follow the Antrim Twitter feed. And I have to say, if I can master the technology - then so can you!

Here is a take on Sunday's NFL match V Roscommon from the Rossies. The journalist is expecting Antrim to arrive down in complacent mood. I think he is wrong on that score.

Our club has not offered any refs (yet) but we are in full agreement with the ruling. It is the old case of cant live with or without them! But it is all of our responsibility to ensure all other clubs have matches refereed (look at how we feel when no ref can do your own game) and therefore because we have not yet offered refs we believe it is only fair that home advantageis stripped - after all wiothout any sanction no-one would be proactive about encouraging members to ref. Hopefully we will address the situation soon!

Think this decision to have clubs forfeit home advantage and seasoned referees who couldn't make the meeting stripped of the auhority to officiate is rediculous. Maybe not everyone could accommodate this ONE meeting. Also, could you inform me how referee's were notified? Was it by text through Sportsmanager as per the norm, or was it one posting on the website a few days prior to the meeting. Not everyone has the time or access to check websites on a continual basis. As far as I was aware, recognised notification is either in writing, email or through Sportsmanager, although I am happy to stand corrected if this has changed.

Referees were informed through the text message system and via their clubs - umpteen times.

My club was also one of those who's referee could not attend the meeting on Monday evening. I presume there is some way clubs can appeal this decision? ????????

That's why clubs have been directed to contact CCC about this.

Surely the real losers in this joke about banning home fixtures are the players and the young supporters. its not the players fault that a referee didnt turn up at a meeting yet they are the ones being punished. also, how are we supposed to keep young boys interested in GAA and away from otheer sports when they won't be able to see any games being played at home.

The players have to take take responsibility for this as much as any senior member or administrator. This semi-professional attitude of club players who think that there only role is providing entertainment is a dangerous malaise creeping into the Association.

I think the proposal that clubs who did not have a referee present at a recent meeting hae no home fixtures is a farce. A fine would be more appriopriate. I think there will be actions as a result of this. Nearly all of the mentioned clubs have referees willing to referee. Clearly the officals who made the ruling had their referees present!

Rubbish. Fines have not worked, do not work and will not work. A fine simply facilitates a club to get away with their responsibility to provide referees by finacial means. We don't have enough referees for our games and if all clubs adopted that approach, we wouldn't have any referees. As for your theory about who put these rules in place - more garbage. These rules were put in place a couple of years ago and some of the County management committee's clubs are affected! The real farce is your ludicrous conclusions about this.

since you have named and shamed the clubs whos referees forgot to turn up at a meeting i take it you,ll be doing the same to the clubs that still owe thousands of pounds to the county.i thought the cut of date for this was the first of march.maybe some of these clubs are to big to name.lets name them and tell us there punishment.

You will soon know because any clubs that are still in arrears wont be given any fixtures. When you see that, you will understand why there hasn't been anything on this. Ans it is not a case of name and shame. These are the facts, clubs have been advised about this problem repeatedly and there general membership need to know why they may not be given home fixtures. That way, they might finally do something about it. All other methods have failed with some clubs but you can be sure that this will have a miraculous effect - it has already!

Hello,
With regard to the referee issue. My cub failed to have anyone present at the meeting at casement and I have it on good authority that our club has up to four referees. Im taking it that this policy of registration of ref's by the date of the meeting is not set in stone. If my club has to play all of our games away from home then I envisage drastic consequences.

The item in the News section is quite clear. If referees were not present, then they have not completed the in-service course and are ineligible. The article also states that queries on this should be directed through club secretaries to CCC. Not having any home fixtures is drastic consequences enough anyway, but what else you are referring to is baffling us?
